We’ve been wanting to have Sylvia here for years, and it’s finally happening!

Sylvia Herold (guitar and vocals) mines the motherlode of American jazz and popular song from the 1930s through the 1960s in a voice the San Francisco Examiner has called “mesmerizing.” She was a member of the swing vocal trio Cats & Jammers and The Hot Club of San Francisco. Currently, she tours and records with Wake the Dead and The Lonestar Retrobates in addition to her own Sylvia Herold Ensemble. She has appeared on more than 25 albums, including five solo recordings.

Mike Wollenberg (lead guitar) was a co-founder of the popular string swing and jazz band Back Up & Push, with whom he played both guitar and bass. His work in both of those roles contributed to his distinctive solo guitar style — playing two or three parts simultaneously or suggesting bass lines or chord patterns that create the illusion of more than a single guitar. His most recent recording, “A Common Language,” is a duo CD with jazz violin great Julian Smedley.

Mark Schatz (upright bass) is a true “renaissance man” of the acoustic music world. A two-time winner of the IBMA Bass Player of the Year Award, he is best known for his contributions on some of the most iconic recordings in bluegrass by artists such as Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, John Hartford, Claire Lynch, Tim O’Brien, Sara Jarosz, and Nickel Creek.

“Sylvia is… a splendid musician. Her emotional range is very reassuringly broad, her singing candid and dear.”

Michael Steinman, “Jazz Lives”
